History of the Consortium

Quality, brand protection and promotional initiatives: these are the objectives of the Consortium, regulated by precise directives found in the laws of the EU (Reg. 2081/92), the State (Law 526/99) and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.

1992 The Consortium for promoting Speck Alto Adige is established by 17 member companies, run by the Chamber of Commerce of Bolzano.
1996 PGI status is obtained (Protected Geographic Indication).
1997 The Consortium sets up independent management.
1998 A new consortium brand is designed to better identify the product.
1999 The first TV campaign is broadcast in Italy.
2000 The first TV campaign is broadcast in Germany.
2001 A new certification system is introduced in compliance with EEC EN 45011 provisions.
2003 The Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies lends its recognition as the Protection Consortium under Law 526/99. A television campaign is broadcast in Austria.
2004 PGI Speck Alto Adige receives authorization for sale in the United States. New specifications on the raw ingredients are given.
